I was born in Brooklyn, New York City, and my parents were also born in Brooklyn. I identify as an African American woman.
I attended Saint Francis College in Brooklyn, NY for my Bachelors degree, I graduated from Saint Francis in 2017.
I currently attend Adelphi University, where I am studying Social Work on the graduate level.
I wanted to go into counseling because of my current experience working with children and witnessing the changes they deal with. Their development, their challenges, family, education and mental and emotional health is so important in determining their future outcome. I think about everything they go through and want to be part of their support and guidance.
I am currently employed with the Department of Education as a Paraprofessional working with youth. It feels really good to be able to work with young people at this point in my career and with the education I now have.
I am a Black woman and as a Black woman I noticed African Americans feel that counseling is not necessary and are not receptive to it. I want to be part of changing that perception.
I am skilled and trained in assessment and working with youth, I have also learned about dignity for all students. I know students appreciate my empathy and are very open with me. I am a very good listener and have compassion for others feelings.
I am a mother of a handsome 1 year old baby boy!
